Water Programs
Students participate in these experiences on a biannual basis. In one year, students take part in the Open Water Learning Experience (OWLE) program at Lakes Entrance, while in the alternate year, students participate in the Paynesville Yacht Club Sailing Program.
Open Water Learning Experience
The Open Water Learning Experience (OWLE) program, delivered by Life Saving Victoria, provides students with practical and engaging opportunities to develop essential water safety, lifesaving and emergency response skills.
Through hands-on activities in the local aquatic environment, students learn how to recognise hazards, make responsible decisions around water and respond appropriately in an emergency. The program aims to empower students to become ‘Everyday Lifesavers’, building the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to enjoy our local waterways safely.
Sailing at Paynesville Yacht Club
Our alternate-year sailing program provides students with the opportunity to experience sailing in the beautiful Gippsland Lakes. In partnership with Paynesville Yacht Club, students develop practical sailing skills while building confidence, teamwork, communication and an appreciation of our local waterways.
These programs provide memorable learning experiences that connect strongly with our local environment and community, while equipping students with important lifelong skills for staying safe around water.
Swimming
As part of our school program students will attend swimming at the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre. Developing confidence in and around water through a fun way can only assist in the progress of swimming. We are indeed fortunate that the qualified staff at the Bairnsdale Aquatic and Recreation Centre provide a well-balanced program for a reasonable cost.
